“By working with Samuel, I was able to discover who I was as a young artist, as well as make discoveries about how I wanted to create and build my art. He exemplified what it meant to be a role model; someone kind, compassionate, but also strong willed and full of creativity. I always noticed one thing; and that is his dedication to the craft, but also the people that make it. He was the first director that I had that I always felt safe and comfortable working with. I knew that I could rely on rehearsal to be the place I would feel my best, where I had someone cheering me on, and supporting my decisions. That allowed me to actually explore my own creative pathways. Working with Samuel, I was able to fully focus on doing my best, without feeling any doubt about doing it “right” or “perfect”. As a director, he helped me make informed choices with my characters, and taught me to really focus on honesty and authenticity, which has helped me become a stronger actor, but also a more informed and confident person.”

“Samuel and I met at a pivotal moment for a group of children that had recently and unexpectedly lost their theatre home. He stepped up to answer the call for a director so “the show could go on” for these young actors. He was caring and sympathetic. He understood just how important theatre and the community was for the development of these kids. Samuel was creative and flexible, making the most out of the limited resources and space we had available. And finally, he was professional and uplifting. His high expectations lifted the kids, showing them that when they trusted in and committed to their choices great things happen! I can’t say enough about Samuel’s professionalism, organizational skills, and theatre knowledge. In those few months of working with Samuel, one could see the difference in confidence, skill, and community cohesion: They learned technical terms, learned how to successfully develop their roles, and supported each other through the entire process. The experience was so rewarding that we decided to open a nonprofit youth theatre together. Youth actors and parents alike valued Samuel’s positivity and his ability to connect and inspire. Personally, I can say that my daughter benefited tremendously from his teaching and encouragement. Coming out of environments where adults had not been on their best behavior and where negativity and pressure were causing undue distress, she flourished with Samuel’s leadership. I am confident that any community lucky enough to have Samuel as a member will benefit from his presence!”

“Samuel is the best youth theatre director that I’ve ever been instructed by. He was patient and fun, but also very organized and honest. I left each production feeling proud, and his creative vision always turn out a great performance. What meant the most to me was his open communication that made us feel safe and listened to, which with youth can make all the difference. His impacts on me are still felt to this day, and he has made me both a better artist and leader.”

“I have been so extremely lucky to call Samuel D. Walker, Jr. a director, colleague, fellow actor, and friend. During our time together at Greensboro College, Samuel was always a person I loved working with, in any capacity. In our final year at GC, Samuel asked me to participate in a piece he was creating that was later titled “We Stand Together”. The piece included our own testimonials, and through working with Samuel, I became comfortable sharing my voice. I will forever be thankful to Samuel for that experience, and the countless others where he taught me how to love myself a little more, and to be proud of my work.”

“You’ve inspired me ever since the day we met. You always push me out of my comfort zone, but in a way that still feels safe and supportive. Because of you, I’ve grown so much more confident, especially in my acting. I feel comfortable trying new things and being more natural in my work. You’ve helped me see my potential and you always remind me of it. I’m grateful to have a mentor who believes in me even when I doubt myself. Your encouragement and honesty have made such a difference in how I see myself and my skills. I wouldn’t be the performer I am today without your support.”

“Samuel is an outstanding theater coach and mentor. My daughter has had the privilege of working with him for the last two years and the growth I have seen in her both as a performer and as a person is truly remarkable. He brings an unparalleled level of passion, dedication, and expertise to the work, that has inspired my daughter to reach her full potential. Through his guidance, my daughter has not only improved her acting skills but also developed confidence, discipline, and a deeper appreciation for the arts. Samuel creates a nurturing environment that encourages creativity, risk-taking, and personal growth, qualities that extend far beyond the stage.
What sets Samuel apart is his ability to see the unique strengths in each student and help them flourish. He invests time and energy into truly understanding and mentoring each individual, providing constructive feedback while always uplifting and motivating.
I am deeply grateful for the impact Samuel has had on my daughter’s life, and I wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone looking for an exceptional theatre coach and mentor.”
